When you are on the color guard, you are on a team. That means you have to work as a team. Teamwork is very important and is a great responsibility. If your going to miss a practice or if you were meant to be at a competition, than you make sure you are going to be there. And if by any chance you can’t make it, than you must get a hold of your team or someone who can and tell them that you aren’t able to be there. I’m sure they will understand if you have a good excuse and proof to back that up. Such as a car accident, deaths in the family or you are really sick. Things like that are understandable. But not like I woke up late or something. That’s inexcusable. So you have to work as a team and be responsible.
There are also other fun activities that the color guard takes part in. Such as parades, the YWBA, WWII Dedication, and the NHS are all just a few of the activities that the color guard took part in this year. The parades are the best in my opinion. Sometimes it takes a long time for the parade to be over, but other times the parades do not last that long at all. The parades are sometimes canceled too due to rain. But, others, like the Veterans Day Parade, it was raining, and we still marched.
When we march in parades, or competitions, or any other activity, whether you are carrying a weapon or a flag, you need the strength to be able to hold and carry them for long periods of time. It is an honor to be able to carry the flag and weapon and march in a parade or competition.
It’s a great responsibility and honor to be on the color guard. It is also a great experience when you can travel to other schools and meet new people. The favorite of being a part of colorguard is the competitions and competing for medals and trophies. So, if you have the time, dedication, honor and strength to be on the color guard, join. It’s really fun and we have a great time. And if you are not interested in the color guard, we have other great teams that you can be involved with.
